In the wet end of the paper production process it is extremely important to have detailed information about the charges of particles in the pulp suspension, which can be determined by CAS Charge Analyzing System. Also important is the knowledge about the surface charge of the pulp fibers, which can be measured with the FPA Fiber Potential Analyzer. Furthermore, emtec Electronic developed a new Online measuring device FPO Fiber Zeta Potential Analyzer Online, which measures the Zeta Potential of fibers directly in the production process.

In addition to the wet-end, it is necessary to get information about the quality of the base and final products. Therefore emtec will present the EST12 Surface & Sizing Tester in Jakarta, which characterizes the process relevant surface parametersof paper and board in order to predict its converting properties. Additionally, the TSA Tissue Softness Analyzer will be shown, which gives reliable and objective information about the “hand feel” and different softness parameters of tissue products.

In summary, the application of all these measuring devices leads to the optimization of the production and converting processes to gain the best possible quality at the lowest possible costs.

emtec at the KRONA Institute in Russia

Optimization of the Production Process of Paper and Board

emtec Electronic GmbH will participate at the IV Annual International State-of-the-Art Conference 2015 at the KRONA Institute in St. Petersburg in Russia with the topic “Modern Systems for Paper and Board Quality Control”. On 18th February, Ms. Elena Beznosova will speak about “Predicting the surface behavior of paper and board during glueing and printing processes” and present some different Paper Testing Technology to optimize the production process of paper and board from the pulp to the finished product with the goal getting an efficient process and the best possible quality with the lowest possible costs.

For efficient process optimization, it is essential to look at both, the wet and dry end of paper and board production. In the wet end, it is extremely important to have detailed information about the charges of particles in the pulp suspension, which can be determined by the CASCharge Analyzing System. Also important is the knowledge about the surface charge of the pulp fibers, which can be measured with the FPAFiber Potential Analyzer. Furthermore, emtec Electronic developed a new Online measuring device FPOFiber Zeta Potential Analyzer Online, which measures the Zeta Potential of fibers directly during the production process and delivers immediately reliable and necessary information concerning the dosing of chemicals to the pulp.

In addition to the wet-end, it is necessary to get an idea of the quality of the base paper after the production for further steps within the conversion. This can be realized by the EST12Surface & Sizing Tester, which gives reliable and objective information about the surface sizing respectively hydrophoby and the surface pore structure to predict the behavior of paper and board during glueing, printing and coating processes. How this functions will be explained in detail by Ms. Elena Beznosova during her presentation on site.

emp tisFrom Tissue World magazine, Emtec Electronic will give a talk and will also be exhibiting at Tissue World 2013.

It will discuss the Emtec TSA tissue softness analyser, which it said is “on its way to becoming an industrial standard worldwide as it opens completely new and exciting options for process optimisation, complaint management, product development and QA.”

General manager Giselher Grüner said: “In addition to this presentation, we have got the opportunity to organise a seminar about the "subjective vs. objective determination of the tissue handfeel".

"To give an overview of the different possibilities to influence the softness of tissue during its production, we will hear speakers from different parts of the tissue industry.”

At the end of the production process, the softness and the handfeel of the tissue has to be determined to assure the quality of such products.

He added: “On the one hand, subjective handfeel panels exist for this task and on the other hand the TSA Tissue Softness Analyser gives objective and reliable results.

"These two positions have to be considered but also to be combined, to reach the best results for the tissue quality in terms of softness.”

The company’s talk will also clarify whether the terms softness and handfeel are the same.

Additionally, Emtec Electronic will present the CAS Charge Analyzing System and the FPA Fibre Potential Analyser during the exhibition.

These devices are used for process optimisation in the wet end of paper machines to avoid overdosing of chemicals, so its application leads to savings in time, material and resources.

Furthermore, there will be information regarding the innovative Emtec FPO Fibre Potential Analyser Online, which measures the Zeta Potential directly in the production process.

The new generation of charge analysis

caspicWhen the story of success of the charge analysis 18 years ago - especially in the paper and paper supplier industry - started, most users made there measurement with a charge detector and a external titrator. Since this time that kind of laboratory measurement instruments had no important improvements beside special measurement cells for particular applications or the possibility to measure the pH-amount.

AFG Analytic GmbH developed a all-new CAS particle charge measurement system which takes the traditional methods of measuring Streaming Potential and established a new era of technology and comfort in particle charge analysis. The difference of the CAS to conventional charge detectors is that it combines the charge detector, the titrator, the temperature compensated pH-measurement and a user-friendly software in one system.

The CAS brings it together in one simple to use portable package!
The titration function is realized by one or alternative two highly accurate computer-controlled internal dosing pumps in combination with a clear, menu driven software through a display. Expensive external titrators which are for some customers complicated to use are no longer necessary. The integrated titrator also eliminates the need for hand titrations, save time and increases accuracy. Essential in bush labs and situations where the consumption rate is very low. Fix increment titration, dynamic titration and converse-dosage (same as back-titration) are selectable from given procedures or are free configurable.

The user-friendly and powerful PC-software allows for easy handling and transfer of test results. Data can be stored, analysed, exported to Excel or a e-mailed form one platform. The features of the CAS-system allows determination of the isoelectric point (IEP), but also the examination of the correlation between pH, titrant demand and Streaming Potential.

The omission of the titrator makes the transport and the handling significant easier.

The CAS system starts a new generation of charge analysis!
