Stadtwerke Bielefeld and Mitsubishi HiTec Paper have been working together successfully since 2003. Now both companies have agreed to continue the partnership before the expiry of the current contract.

Stadtwerke Bielefeld and Mitsubishi HiTec Paper have been working together successfully since 2003. At that time, the Bielefeld Stadtwerke (public utilities) built a highly energy-efficient combined heat and power plant on the site of the speciality paper manufacturer to supply the mill with electricity and steam. Now both companies have agreed to continue this partnership before the expiration of the contract. The consortium agreement was signed on 20.9.2019 and is valid for five years.

Dr. Martin Schreer and Andreas Jastrzembowski, Managing Directors of Mitsubishi HiTec Paper: "We are delighted to continue this collaboration with Stadtwerke Bielefeld.  All of our heat and power has been supplied by our partner, with whom we have had good experiences, for 15 years.  A reliable and sustainable efficient energy supply is enormously important for our production."

Martin Uekmann and Rainer Müller, Managing Directors of Stadtwerke Bielefeld, explain: "The plant in Hillegossen makes a significant contribution to energy transition. That's another reason why we are pleased that Mitsubishi HiTec Paper has decided to continue working with us. As a company, we have relied on renewable energies for years and support energy transition. This also includes highly efficient combined heat and power plants such as those in Bielefeld Hillegossen."

About the power plant: In the next five years, Stadtwerke Bielefeld will invest around 2.2 million euros in further modernization of the facility. It is a highly efficient CHP plant that saves around 14,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year compared to uncoupled production. On 9 May 2003, the original consortium agreement for the construction of the gas and steam power plant at Bielefeld Hillegossen was signed. Stadtwerke invested 34 million euros at that time. The goal was the modernization of the steam supply of the paper mill. The power plant was put into operation on 3 January 2005.

It protects food and consumers not only from water vapour, grease or oil and oxygen or aroma, but also from mineral oil migration (MOSH / MOAH), thus offering a particularly wide barrier protection.

The paper, produced from virgin fibres, consists of a particularly high proportion of renewable raw materials, and is

100% free of plastic films, aluminium and fluorocarbons. Of course, BAG WGOM is approved for direct food contact as well as being FSC® or PEFC ™ certified.

"Furthermore, BAG WGOM is fully recyclable" says Michael Kater, sales manager for barrier papers at Mitsubishi. "Due to its very good heat-sealability, it is particularly suitable for heat-sealed bag packaging of dry and greasy foods, and it is the intelligent alternative to film packaging made of PE, PP or BOPP film. This fits in perfectly with the theme of Fachpack 2019: Environmentally friendly packaging. "

Samples and further information of the complete barricote range are available at Fachpack 2019 in Nuremberg (Booth 7A641), and also at the Mitsubishi booth at Labelexpo Europe 2019 in Brussels (Booth 6A09) - or at barricotThis email address is being protected from spambots. 19 new apprentices at Mitsubishi HiTec Paper

On August 1, 2019, nineteen new apprentices were warmly welcomed to Mitsubishi HiTec Paper. Five paper technologists, three industrial mechanics, three electronics technicians, one cutting machine operator, four machine and plant operators, one IT specialist and two industrial clerks began their careers at the mills in Bielefeld and Flensburg.

For the new apprentices (thirteen in Bielefeld and six in Flensburg) it is now time to undergo intensive training involving many interesting experiences. Whether at the large state-of-the-art production machines, in the administration or in the IT of the German manufacturer of coated special papers for the global market, experienced instructors guide and assist with help and advice. To ensure it is not all too much like hard work, the apprentices also enjoy medieval markets, where the traditional art of paper-making is brought to life for interested visitors.

With two innovations in store, Mitsubishi HiTec Paper is presenting a wide range of coated specialty papers for the label and packaging market at Labelexpo Europe 2019. The new products: jetscript METAL VPG 1018, a metallic- silver gloss inkjet paper for the water-based inkjet printing of self-adhesive labels, as well as barricote BAG WGOM, a fully recyclable barrier paper for flexible food packaging with multi-barrier against water vapour, grease and oil, oxygen and aroma as well as mineral oil migration.

As a paper product, the new jetscript METAL VPG 1018 (110 g) is purely fibre-based with a silver metallic glossy finish and a transparent, microporous inkjet coating for excellent printing performance. The inkjet paper impresses with its high print density, fast drying, compatibility with latex inks and optimum performance in the self-adhesive production process.
