PulPaper looks to the future of the forest industry

PulPaper is the leading international event in the forest industry’s calendar, and will be held at Messukeskus in Helsinki on 29–31 May 2018. The event acts as a global meeting place where visitors can get a comprehensive overview of the latest forestry technology. The previous event attracted visitors from a total of 70 different countries, and exhibitors from 30 countries are expected at PulPaper 2018.

PulPaplogopvm600pxThe event was last held in 2014. Preparations for the 2018 event are now in full swing with regard to both the programme and sales. New technologies and innovations from start-ups will also be on display at the event.

Three other events will also be held at the same time as PulPaper: Wood, a new event in the field of mechanical wood processing; PacTec Helsinki, a packaging industry event; and the brand-new Bioenergy.

In addition to comprehensive coverage of fields in the forest industry, the event programme as a whole also covers the packaging, energy and chemical industries to offer visitors and participating companies a chance to meet actors from many different industries.

“Together, the events form a vast, synergetic programme in which each field supports the others. There is nothing comparable anywhere else in the world, and this new event programme supports integration within the forestry cluster. PulPaper offers a unique opportunity for uniting different fields in the forest industry,” says Messukeskus Sales Team Manager Marcus Bergström, who is in charge of the events.

“PulPaper has received an enthusiastic reception. Almost all of the leading forest companies and equipment suppliers in the forest and packaging industries are attending, and their commitment has also encouraged other companies to reserve their exhibition spaces well ahead of the event,” says Hanna Koskela, Sales Manager.

What does the future of the industry look like?

The event’s theme – Visit tomorrow today – is clearly focused on the future. The programme includes both paid conferences and free lectures. Topics in PulPaper’s conference programme include the circular economy, 3D printing, the bioeconomy, climate change, digitalisation, and the opportunities afforded by the industrial internet. Practical examples from companies bring a concrete aspect to these visions of the future.

Business Forum – a new seminar package targeted at company management – will be held on the opening day. Its speakers will be forefront opinion leaders from both Finland and abroad, and their topics will range from consumer habits to change management, and from innovation to sustainable development.

The exhibition area’s Future Square stage will run a free programme focusing on the opportunities afforded by the bioeconomy and career outlooks for industry students. The programme will also be supplemented with visits to pioneering companies in the industry, such as the new bioproduct mill in Äänekoski.

“Thanks to numerous new investments, the future looks bright for Finnish advancements in the bioforest industry. A lot of new things have been happening in the industry, and new products have come on the market. Expectations are high for the new event programme. PulPaper will have an extremely interesting and diverse conference programme reflecting the positive developments in the industry,” says Antti Lindqvist, CEO of Puunjalostusinsinöörit ry.

The forest, packaging, energy and chemical industry events PulPaper, Wood, PacTec Helsinki and Bioenergy will be held at Messukeskus in Helsinki on 29–31 May 2018.

PulPaper 2014 - End of Show Report

pp andThe 8th edition of PulPaper was held in Helsinki 3-5 June, 2014. The three eventful days once again confirmed PulPaper's status as the world's premier and most progressive meeting place for the industry. Just like it set out to, the event enabled participants to share knowledge, innovation and new ideas with each other and created a platform to meet, network, do business and stay updated.

For first time exhibitor Richter Karhula, PulPaper was a great success. – Richter has been active on the German market for over 40 years. After having taken over the Karhula plant a year ago we wanted to get better known in the Northern market, says Dirk Richter, General Manager of Richter GmbH&Co KG. - By exhibiting at PulPaper, we made many new and valuable contacts in the Finnish market. The arrangement was very well implemented and we had a great time in Helsinki with customers and colleagues. We feel even more at home in the Finnish market now and hold a very positive attitude towards the future.
Richter Karhula attracted a lot of attention in the hall due to special marketing activities and visibility around the Messukeskus. The company works independent from any machine supplier and performs service for nearly every part of the paper machine and offers spare parts, new roll covers as well as manufacturing, repair and regeneration of rolls.

PulPaper 2014 had a final visitor figure after three days of 9428. The visitors travelled to Helsinki from 72 countries worldwide, making it the most international event of its kind. The exhibition floor hosted 453 exhibitors from 29 countries in 193 stands.

- The feedback from exhibitors, visitors and conference delegates of the event has been very positive, says Adforum CEO Marcus Bergström. - The Biofuture for Mankind and the IMPC2014 conferences offered participants highest quality content and the social activities, the Pulpaper After Work and the PI 100th anniversary Gala Evening provided guests with a great mix of entertainment and networking opportunities. We are very happy with the general outcome of PulPaper 2014 and would like to welcome everyone back to the next PulPaper event scheduled to take place in the late spring/early summer of 2018, dates to be announced.
