DICAPA, a leading board and fine paper converter in North Africa, has invested in a 1450mm TSKM sheeter from MarquipWardUnited. With this significant order, the Morocco-based company can further its aims to improve business with the highest technology available for the market. DICAPA currently has three other sheeters, but a need for improved performance lead the company to the TSKM.
DICAPA made the final decision to purchase the TSKM at ICE Europe 2013 in Munich, Germany. The sheeter will ship this month and installation will take place in August.
“DICAPA is a key player in North Africa and we are proud to install the best cutting technology in Morocco,” says Frederic Duquenne, a MarquipWardUnited sales executive for Western Europe and Africa.
The 1450mm maximum width dual rotary sheeter (also available in 1650mm) is equipped with one SSLD unwind for two webs, three slitters, the Marquip synchro knife and 1,500mm pile height stacker.
The TSKM will mainly sheet board, but can sheet fine paper as well. DICAPA appreciated the flexibility of the MarquipWardUnited Sheeter and the possibility of future development.
Mechiche Alami, Chairman of DICAPA, said, “MarquipWardUnited has the best knife, with the best cut quality, no dust, in-machine blade sharpening, low maintenance, and local technical support from the MarquipWardUnited United agent at Graphic Evolution.”
MarquipWardUnited has recently introduced the new TwinCut feature to their sheeter product line for twin synchronous knife Sheeters. The TwinCut is offered on the SheetWizard, which was introduced in 2007 and has since been the bestselling dual rotary sheeter in its class.
MarquipWardUnited Sheeters offer flexible configurations that have been installed in mills cutting both paper and board; folding carton plants where sheets are stacked central to the plastic pallet feeding direct to the press; and to converters with products as diverse as 24 gsm silicone paper to 800 gsm board. TwinCut takes this already flexible Sheeting platform to a whole new level.
The growth of digital size sheeting has presented a problem for converters and mills worldwide. Digital sheet sizes have diverged from the standardized formats such as A4 or A3 or 8½” x 11”, and have instead seen a growth of sizes between A4 and GTO formats. Customers with traditional cut size lines are unable to handle these flexible formats. Customers with traditional folio size Sheeters were presented with the choice of either running finished size at very low speeds or sheeting double or quadruple size and guillotining afterwards. Neither option is efficient or cost effective.
TwinCut allows mills and converters to sheet from A4 or 8½” x 11” up to large folio format on the same machine. On cut size and digital production, the sheeter operates in the production range of 18,000 sheets per minute based on a five web, five pocket set up. On the same machine running a typical five web, 80 gsm sheet 720 mm x 1000 mm a typical output exceeding four tonnes per hour is achievable.
The SheetWizard with TwinCut can be configured to produce sheet in palletized stacks or in reams. When ream production is required a complete system giving wrapped reams in cartons automatically palletized and wrapped can be supplied.
MarquipWardUnited has six sheeters currently operating with the two knives per drum technology; including three at a major paper producer in Korea.
The SheetWizard with TwinCut is positioned to be a market leader offering high quality sheeting for paper and board delivered in the form required by today’s efficiency driven converters and mills.

ITC is one of India's foremost private sector companies with a market capitalization of more than $30 billion and a turnover of $6 billion. ITC is rated among the World's Best Big Companies, Asia's “Fab 50” and the World's Most Reputable Companies by Forbes magazine.
ITC’s Paperboard and Specialty Paper Division (PSPD) operates India's largest integrated pulping and paperboard manufacturing unit in Bhadrachalam, with a total manufacturing capacity of more than 350,000 tons of papers and paperboards per annum. ITC-PSPD is currently executing a capacity expansion project of 100,000 TPA.
After extensive market research and fact-finding visits to many sheeting facilities for this project, ITC-PSPD chose MarquipWardUnited as its preferred sheeting technology partner. MarquipWardUnited is a division of Barry-Wehmiller Companies, Inc., a $1 billion global provider of manufacturing equipment solutions and the largest packaging machinery group in the Western Hemisphere.
It was decided that a partnership between the two companies would provide ITC with the sheeters needed to improve both performance and quality. Both ITC and MarquipWardUnited see this order as the first step in a long and mutually beneficial relationship.
Two MarquipWardUnited SheetWizard sheeters equipped to produce dust-free, press-ready sheets running with one or two reels were specified to meet the exact needs of ITC and to accommodate the growing quality demands of India printers and folding carton manufacturers. With more modern high-speed presses being installed in India, only sheets cut to the tightest tolerances will allow the printer to reach the maximum output potential.
“We have been trying for some time to enter the Indian paper and board mill market,” explained MarquipWardUnited area sales manager Michael Gennis. “In ITC, we have found a superior partner for this first success.”
Rakesh Gupta, ITC General Manager – Projects, commented, “From the unique MarquipWardUnited technology, we are expecting a high output as well as excellent cutting quality and cutting accuracy, combined with a reduced power consumption of 50 percent compared to sheeters from other suppliers.”
