Heavy investments in the development of the most modern size reduction and process technologies for the wood processing industry are now paying off with numerous attractive international orders. Customers in Russia, Asia, South America and new European Union countries top the list. Pallmann’s order backlog now stretches into the final quarter of this year.

Pallmann, a family firm that has been operating in Zweibrücken, Germany, for over 100 years, has been consistently strengthening its international presence in the recent past. Now this specialist in size reduction technology is reaping the rewards. Orders have been flooding into its Wood Processing Division, especially from Russia and Asia. The company is now working on several attractive projects and registering a steep growth in sales. The main focus is on complex plants for the production of wood fiber or chips that are used in particle board, medium-density fibreboard (MDF), oriented strand board (OSB) and other wood-based products.

Aside from orders for a variety of individual machines, it is complete projects that are currently driving the steep rise in new orders. In Chile, for example, the Arauco group has ordered two complete timber yard plants with rotary bark strippers and chippers, and including the complete machining technology and grinding robot for its sites in Yangay and Teno. Also being delivered this year will be machining technology and timber yard technology for chipboard production by another customer,Yildiz Entegre in Manisa.

At its site in Mersin, Yildiz Entegre is taking delivery of a 66” refiner, as well as timber yard equipment that includes a drum-type bark stripper and drum chipper. In Mendoza, Argentina, a new particleboard plant operated by Cuyoplacas relies on Pallmann for rotary bark strippers and drum chippers, as well as its entire machining technology.

Another interesting major project for Pallmann is a new MDF plant in Apscheronsk, Russia. This incorporates a large refiner, wood chip washing system and complete timber yard. Delivery of the system is already underway. In the middle of this year, Pallmann also began shipping components of a new MDF line being installed by its Thai customer Rayong.

Back in Europe, Pallmann will deliver the core of a new plant based on two chippers for production of OSB in Radauti, Romania. Another OSB chipping line will be established in Turkey, the first of its type in the country.

Pallmann has taken a giant step ahead of the competition with an order from China: in Baouyuan, it will deliver and put into operation the first-ever OSB plant in Asia. Once again, the customer is relying on innovative machining technology from Zweibrücken.

The Pallmann Group is growing quantitatively and qualitatively in equal measure – not only in the timber industry, but also in its plastics, recycling and processing technology divisions. Regular heavy investments in technology as well as in its international distribution network have led to significant growth in incoming orders and an increase in the average order size. The complexity of the plant and machinery continues to increase. Moreover, the share of international orders is rising sharply, right through to the first-time introduction of new technologies in China and other Asian countries.
