Due to continuing high cost and volatility in raw materials, energy and transportation Sappi Europe will increase its prices to its European customers by 8-10% on its range of Woodfree Coated and Uncoated papers, and Paperboard  from 12 September.

The cost outlook remains uncertain and Sappi will continue to adjust pricing if costs escalate further.

Sappi’s European sales team will be in further contact directly with customers to discuss the details of the implementation.

Sappi Europe continues to face increasing costs to its Graphic Paper business, related to energy costs as well as raw material cost rises due to availability challenges. It is forecast that this volatile environment will persist for now due to the current uncertain political and economic climate. Accordingly in order to maintain profitability and keep its mills running full, Sappi will implement a further price increase of 10% to its Woodfree paper grades effective for deliveries from early April latest beginning May depending on the market. This will be in addition to the previously announced increases.

Sappi Europe will increase prices for its Graphic Paper and Board products (Coated and Uncoated Fine paper, Coated Mechanical paper and Paperboard) by approximately 8% effective on deliveries from 1 April.

Sappi Europe informs customers of further unavoidable price adjustments to its Speciality Paper grades due to the continued and unprecedented high level of raw material, chemical and logistics costs in combination with highly volatile and unpredictable energy prices.

Sappi Europe announces the appointment of Flavio Froehli as Vice President, Marketing & Sales with immediate effect for the entire Sappi Europe portfolio reporting to Marco Eikelenboom, Chief Executive Officer, Sappi Europe. Flavio holds an MBA from University of Minnesota and Vienna University of Economics & Business. He is an experienced marketing & sales executive with an extensive background in the Paper, Packaging & Pulp industry.

2020 11 02 094120Flavio joined Sappi as Sales Director, Graphics with the acquisition of M-real Graphics in 2008. Since joining Sappi, he was involved in several change initiatives. In his latest capacity as Director, Business Strategy & Development, appointed in 2018, he was also in charge of leading a cross-functional, cross-business team of collaborative experts accelerating Sappi’s transition into growth markets by identifying, evaluating, and selecting products that are today being manufactured on originally Graphics-dedicated machines.

With the aim of driving commercial excellence, this position strengthens the groups One Sappi philosophy and in parallel supports Sappi’s Thrive25 ambitions of accelerating a transition into growth markets. This will further reinforce the position of Sappi Europe as a sustainably resilient company, thriving to be a systemically relevant partner for its customers in the Graphics, Packaging and Speciality papers markets.

The decrease in consumption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic continues to place strong pressure on prices. In combination with cost increases in paper production and transport this has continued to lead to unsustainable profitability levels, especially felt in our overseas markets.

2020 11 02 094120Due to this Sappi is to further increase prices for the entire Fine Paper range by a minimum of US$ 50/ton as of February production and March shipments for all overseas markets.
