International technology Group ANDRITZ, through its U.S. subsidiary ANDRITZ Inc., is collaborating with ZeaChem Inc. on the production of cellulosic biofuels and bio-based chemicals by providing the technology for a continuous biomass pre-treatment pilot plant. ZeaChem is a developer of biorefineries for the conversion of renewable biomass into sustainable fuels and chemicals.

The partnership between the two organizations is the culmination of several years of cooperative work focused on the production of cellulosic biofuels. The ANDRITZ technology will be installed at ZeaChem’s new 250,000 gallons per year biorefining facility in Boardman, Oregon USA. ZeaChem is headquartered in Lakewood, CO USA.

The ANDRITZ technology will be used to convert various cellulosic feedstocks, including poplar trees and agricultural residues, into low-cost sugars. These cellulosic sugars will be used by ZeaChem to enable the production of sustainable and economical advanced biofuels and bio-based chemicals. Cellulosic ethanol production at the ZeaChem biorefinery will begin this year and the product portfolio of the biorefinery will be expanded for the production of bio-based jet and diesel fuels beginning in 2013.

The pilot plant system includes an ANDRITZ cooking reactor with continuous steam explosion technology. ANDRITZ filter press technology will be used to wash the steam-exploded biomass. These technologies are well-proven in other industrial processes and, through extensive R&D in liquid biofuels, have been modified by ANDRITZ to satisfy the requirements for ZeaChem’s process conditions.

International technology Group ANDRITZ has acquired the assets of Tristar Industries Ltd. The action combines ANDRITZ’s strengths as an original equipment manufacturer with Tristar’s capabilities as a quality rebuild and manufacturing facility.

ANDRITZ will operate the former Tristar facility in Delta, British Columbia, as the Delta Service Centre for its PULP & PAPER’s service business. According to Carl Luhrmann, Senior Vice President of ANDRITZ Inc. in North America, the location in Delta is ideal for servicing customers in the Northwest. ANDRITZ Inc. has been performing rebuilds and other manufacturing for many years in the USA at its Pell City, Alabama, facility, which was recently expanded.

“We have anticipated the rapidly rising transportation costs and other logistical issues, and have been looking for a facility in the Northwest,” Luhrmann says. “This acquisition is a good fit for us. The experienced employees, reputation, and geographic location of the Tristar operation make it ideal for servicing customers in the Western United States and Canada.”

The Delta Service Centre will be dedicated to supporting rebuilds of pulp and paper equipment such as continuous digesters, M&D digesters, vacuum washers, twin roll presses, Compaction Baffle Filters™, thick stock pumps, and recausticizing filters. ANDRITZ Service Account Managers will continue to be the customer’s single point of contact for all ANDRITZ products.

In addition to rebuilds, ANDRITZ has developed several new technologies for vacuum washers that have been manufactured in the south which have been very popular with customers. “With a quality manufacturing facility in the Northwest, we will now be able to offer these technologies to this region,” Luhrmann adds.

ANDRITZ will also be able to utilize Tristar capabilities to expand its services. As an example, Tristar had excellent capabilities in the area of Clove-Rotor™ pump rebuilds. ANDRITZ will utilize the drawings, patterns, machining capabilities, and expertise to quickly establish Pell City as its southern service center for Clove-Rotor™ pump rebuilds.

Andritz report growing sales for 2011/2012

ANDRITZ: sales of over 4 billion EUR expected for 2011, increase to more than 4.5 billion EUR planned for 2012

At the ANDRITZ Capital Market Days 2011, Wolfgang Leitner, President and CEO of ANDRITZ AG, today specified the sales and earnings targets of the ANDRITZ GROUP for 2011 and 2012:

“Based on the high order intake and good development in sales in the first half of 2011, we expect Group sales to rise above four billion Euros for 2011. For 2012, we are planning a further increase in sales to over 4.5 billion Euros in view of the good order intake and the acquisitions made in 2010 and 2011. We confirm our target to achieve an average EBITA margin of 7% over the cycle and also intend continuing our pro-active dividend policy,” said Leitner and added: “However, a possible significant downturn of the global economy would most likely impact the achievement of these goals.”

Based on Group sales of 4.5 billion EUR, an EBITA margin of 7%, and a tax rate of 30%, earnings per share of about 4.23 EUR could be reached in 2012 (2008: 2.73 EUR per share; 2009: 1.89 EUR per share; 2010: 3.48 EUR per share), corresponding to an average annual growth of over 20% in earnings per share since 2000.

ANDRITZ wants to continue its dividend policy, which is focused on maintaining continuity, and aims to increase the dividend payout ratio steadily to approximately 60% in the next few years.
