Tieto modernizes Norwegian forestry

2014-10-24 082522 tieto logo blueNorwegian forestry is facing major changes. The competition is increasing; there are significant shifts in the market, and many forest owners have less experience from forestry than before. A unique map solution from Tieto is now launched to make forestry faster and more efficient.

Allma is a co-operation between Allskog, Mjosen Skog and AT Skog, and it accounts for more than 30 percent of the timber revenue in Norway. They have now chosen Tieto to develop a map solution intended for web and mobile phones for forest owners, forestry leaders and entrepreneurs.

“We wanted to collaborate with Tieto because of their comprehensive knowledge regarding forestry and their ability to provide all consultancy, design and IT solutions that are necessary for develop the next version of Allma. We want them to be a partner in our effort to develop even better, more available and cost efficient solutions for the forestry,” says Erik A. Dahl , CEO of Mjosen Skog and member of the Board of Directors, Allma.

Increasing efficiency

Norwegian forestry has a considerable unused raw material potential, but at the same time the high costs of the country pose a great challenge. Tieto’s map solution for web and mobile phones is based on a market leading map engine (Esri) and will, to a large extent, contribute to increased efficiency in terms of forestry.

“More accurate planning and research in terms of forest, forestry plans, signed deals and potential deals is the key to better customer service and productivity. The service we are now able to provide is unique and at the same time easy to use,” says Kolbjørn Haarr , Managing Director and Executive Vice President at Tieto Norway.

The map solution is a tool which can be used to schedule more customer contacts, to get more work done when out on inspections as well as to find and register new potential contracts directly. This saves a lot of time.

“The solution is aimed to help less experienced forest owners to better understand forestry and how they can get more value from their forest. It should also be an efficient aid for experienced forest owners. Automation and less manual steps increase efficiency, competitive advantages and cost reductions,” says Haarr.

Web Trim’s Software as a Service solution allows Cham to focus on its core business without any local installations or need to maintain its own IT infra.

Trim is an optimization module of Tieto Integrated Paper Solution TIPS, which is the leading sales, logistics and manufacturing execution system for the pulp and paper industry.

Cham and Tieto have been working together for more than 15 years. Cham had the need to update its old release of TIPS Trim to the newest Trim application. The collaboration with Tieto has been very constructive and efficient. The support after the implementation has been excellent,” says Markus Keiser, Head of Operations at Cham.
