Delegation from South East Asia visiting Sweden

At the beginning of October 2016 a delegation from the pulp & paper industry in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia visited Sweden, invited by Swedish Pulp & Paper Technology Group, PPT. The purpose of the visit was to present Swedish technology for important decision makers and to give an opportunity for the Swedish suppliers of technology to develop their business in South East Asia.

”The members of Swedish Pulp & Paper Technology Group, PPT, supplying technology to the forest industry all around the world, have regular meetings with representatives from the forest-based industry in South East Asia. These meetings are important for developing a competitive and environmentally sound forest industry in the region at the same time as they bring business opportunities for Swedish suppliers of technology”, says Ulf Frölander, chairman of PPT.

The Delegation included 20 mill and production managers from the most important producers in the region. Business Sweden´s office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, invited and gathered the delegation. The program in Sweden, carried out in and around Karlstad, included technical presentations and individual business meetings between the visitors and member companies of PPT, as well as visits to Stora Enso Skoghall and to technology companies.

The industry in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia are searching technical solutions for increased productivity as they aim at expanding pulp production based on planted fast-growing forests, as well as focusing on increased production of different paper grades. The world is aware that significant technological advancements are developed in Sweden and international producers attentively watch our new techniques for pulp and paper production.

Great interest in the winter meeting of PPT

ppt sweden logoSome 80 persons within the Swedish forest-based industry gathered for the winter meeting with PPT, Swedish Pulp & Paper Technology Group, on March 17, 2016 at the SWECO headquarters in Stockholm.

A full-day program focused on current issues and questions within the pulp & paper industry.

The president and CEO of Holmen, Henrik Sjölund and Ulf Larsson, president of SCA Forest Products, presented measures taken to meet challenges of today, while Johan Engström, Andritz Pulp & Paper elaborated  on technical developments in view of increased demand for  sustainable production. A panel discussion, led by PPT chairman Ulf Frölander, with panellists Holmen, SCA and Andritz, focused on challenges for the industry in view of the present massive capital investment projects in the Nordic countries.

Business Sweden’s chief economist Mauro Gozzo gave its most recent business forecast including the Export Managers’ Index for Q1, 2016. Chief economist Petter Lundvik, Handelsbanken, pointed at reasons behind fluctuations in the world economy and the importance of taking that into account when forecasting. Sten B Nilsson, Forest Sector Insights, with experience from North America talked about today’s tendencies in the pulp & paper industry there. Finally, Kacper Pierzynowski, Business Sweden’s office in Kuala Lumpur, gave an introduction to the ASEAN region in view of PPT’s plans to invite a delegation of mill and production managers to Sweden from Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia at the beginning of October 2016.

Rounding up the program, a formal annual meeting of PPT was held, followed by the traditional boule tournament with dinner at Prince Bertil’s Hall of Boule at Djurgården, Stockholm.

Pulp and paper engineers from India visit Sweden

A high-level group from India visited Sweden, September 27-30, 2015, invited by Swedish Pulp & Paper Technology Group, PPT, in cooperation with Business Sweden’s office in New Delhi. The purpose of the visit was to present Swedish technology for mill managers and other important decision makers in India and to give a chance for the Swedish technology suppliers to identify new business opportunities on the Indian market.

Thedelegation from India consisted of 20 persons representing 11 companies, among others the major producers of paper and pulp, such as Ballapur Industries, ITC, Seshasayee, Tamil Nadu Newsprint, Yash, Khanna Papers as well as the Indian Paper Manufacturers Association. The delegation met with ABB/Lorentzen & Wettre, Akzo Nobel Pulp & Performance, Alfa Laval, Andritz, BTG, Clean Combustion, Elof Hansson, Innventia, MoRe Research, SWECO, UMV Coating, Valmet and ÅF Industry. In connection with the study visits in Sweden, business meetings were arranged between the visitors from India and the Swedish technology companies.

2015 05 04 084336Some 80 persons within the Swedish forest-based industry gathered for the spring meeting with PPT, Swedish Pulp & Paper Technology Group, on April 22, 2015 at the Sweco headquarters in Stockholm.

A full day program focused on issues of current interest with presentations and debates.

Sveaskog explained its challenges how best to utilize Sweden’s wood resources. Based on the pulp making process as a hub, Innventia elaborated on the development of various value chains for energy and chemistry and Kiram presented other driving forces for the development of bio-refining. Tofte gave details about the new facility in Norway for the production of Silva Green Fuel together with Statskraft and Södra. The suppliers of process technology presented how they adapt to the changing technology environment today.

The present big capital investment projects in the Nordic countries were discussed. A panel discussion, led by PPT chairman Ulf Frölander, focused on the bio refining aspects of these projects. Panellists were Sveaskog, Innventia, Kiram, NiNa Innovation, Andritz, ÅF and Södra Cell Tofte.

BillerudKorsnäs gave an insight into the present developments within the packaging business. The Swedish Forest Industries Federation presented a recent study, giving four development scenarios until year 2020 for the Swedish forest-based industry. Business Sweden gave its most recent business forecast and Sweco elaborated on some of its present projects within the global forest industry. Rounding up the meeting, a panel discussed a point of high interest to members of PPT, namely delivery conditions for selling technology to the forest-based industry. Panellists included SSG (Standard Solutions Group), SCA, Andritz, Somas and Valmet and the discussions were led by Åke Ryhagen.

A Delegation from Brazil and Chile visited Sweden October 12 - 17, 2014, invited by Swedish Pulp & Paper Technology Group, PPT, in cooperation with Business Sweden’s office in São Paulo, Brazil. The purpose of the visit was to present Swedish technology for important decision makers and to give an opportunity for the Swedish suppliers of technology to develop their business in South America.

In connection with study visits to ÅF Industry, Sweco, Billerud Korsnäs and Innventia, individual business meetings were arranged between the visitors from Brazil and Chile and the Swedish technology companies.
