Successful start-up of the first ANDRITZ gap former at Cartiere Modesto Cardella, Italy
Following the rebuild of the wet section of paper machine PM4 at Cartiere Modesto Cardella S.p.A., Italy, by international technology Group ANDRITZ, the PrimeFlow TW two-layer headbox with PrimeProfiler F dilution water control, and the first PrimeForm TW gap former to be supplied by ANDRITZ PULP & PAPER have gone into operation successfully.
The concept ANDRITZ has supplied provides high dewatering performance and production of corrugated base paper grades with a minimum of two-sidedness. Initial results after production start showed a significant improvement in paper formation and strength properties. The paper machine has a design speed of 1,200 m/min and a wire width of 3,180 mm; the corrugated base paper, with a basis weight range of 90 to 170 gsm, is produced from 100% waste paper.
Thanks to the presence of the ANDRITZ experts on site, the rebuild went very smoothly. All systems have been started up successfully and we are very pleased with the components ANDRITZ has supplied', says Modesto Cardella, Managing Director of Cartiere Modesto Cardella.

ÅF receives a new challenging assignment for speed increase.
ÅF has been awarded with a paper machine speed increase study for a classified client. The customer requested a substantial increase of the production speed of more than 20%.
ÅF Materials Technology put together a tailor made team for these specific customer needs. Depending on the findings, the progressing results and the specific customer requests, the scope and techniques are evolving to fit into the specific customer application.
This study is a typical ÅF assignment as it involves several of ÅF's highly specialized competences. The ÅF-Group is autonomous and unique as it is able to offer independent packages to its customers.
The engineers perform inspections, thickness measurements and non destructive testing to find weak points in the systems. Moreover, they carry out Vibration measurements and studies, Fatigue and strength calculations, as well as Metallographic analyses.
ÅF's dedicated Paper and Board expert team is one of the pulp and paper industry's most respected and preferred supplier of strategy consulting and engineering for all kinds of pulp & paper mill projects globally. As part of the ÅF group of consulting companies, they draw from over 100 years of experience and more than 4400 consultants worldwide supplying expertise to the whole pulp and paper making related projects.
ÅF is an engineering company based out of Stockholm, Sweden with offices in 19 countries all over the world and offers services in all industrial categories; e.g., pulp & paper, environment, energy, food, pharmaceutical, oil, automation, IT.

Enessco provides Production Enhancement Technology
ENESSCO S 1000 is an advanced Production Enhancement technology that maximizes Paper Machine and Converting production efficiencies. ENESSCO S 1000 is a worldwide patented blend of surfactants and inorganic chemicals. This technology effectively modifies surface-active forces between the Fiber and the Wax & Stickies adhering to the fiber. Stickies & Wax are effectively liberated from usable fiber.
Product Fact Sheet:
* Patented Technology Effectively Releases and Stabilizes Contaminants, Liberating Fiber
* Substantial Yield Increases due to Improved Screening and Cleaning Efficiency
* Improved Stickies & Wax Removal resulting in Higher Quality Furnish
* Control of Process Water "Micro Stickies" improves Paper Machine & Converting productivity
* Low Cost control of Wire, Felt, and Dryer Fabric deposition
* Removal of Wax/Contaminants results in improved Sheet Appearance, Strength and Slide Angle
* FDA Approved, Non-Hazardous/Non-Toxic, Environmentally friendly!
ENESSCO S 1000 treated contaminants are more efficiently removed by mechanical screens, centri-cleaners, and water clarification equipment. This results in reduced levels of Macro/Micro stickies and wax in the processed pulp. Surface passivation of remaining contaminants inhibits system wide deposition.
ENESSCO S 1000's reduction and control of contaminates leads to cleaner forming sections, press felts and dryer section fabrics. Stock Preparation yield improves substantially as screening and cleaning unit operations are able to disseminate valuable fiber from contaminants more efficiently. Greater production efficiencies, improve quality and reduced downtime are the primary benefits of this unique patented technology.
Wax removal by ENESSCO S 1000 results in significant sheet quality, slide angle and strength test improvements. Cost savings are realized through the increase in premium production, cull reduction & reduction of chemicals.
The use of eliminating Thermal Dispersers will greatly reduce the overall cost of mill operations and not only save steam but energy.
Use of a lesser grade of furnish such as DLK and still meeting all specifications will provide mills paybacks of up to 3 : 1
Application:
Brown Grades, News Print:
Reduce stickies
Eliminate Wax spots
Increase production up to 8%
Eliminate Machine Deposition
Eliminate the need for Thermal Disperser
Improve white water quality
Reduce overall mill energy cost
The proper dosage rate for ENESSCO S 1000 depends on quality of recycled furnish and final pulp specifications. A normal feedrate is 0.7-0.9 dry lbs. per ton of recycled fiber at the repulper. Product is delivered in dry or liquid form and can be packaged in repulpable bags sized for batch applications. Continuos operations typically use liquid product.
