and 1International technology Group ANDRITZ has received an order from the regional Swedish utility Växjö Energi AB to deliver a biomass power boiler island that will be part of a new combined heat and power plant. The plant will supply heat and power for the Växjö community in the province of Småland in southern Sweden and is scheduled to start up at the end of 2014.

The scope of supply includes the boiler island from the inlet to the fuel silos to the boiler outlet, based on the well-proven bubbling fluidized bed design of ANDRITZ, which combines high efficiency with excellent environmental performance. The boiler will burn wood-based biomass (forest residue, bark, sawdust, and wood chips) to generate steam at the rate of 155 t/h, with steam parameters of 540 °C and 140 bar(a).

“ANDRITZ’s high level of technological competence and experience were decisive the in award of this order,” says Björn Wolgast, the business area manager for power and heat at Växjö Energi.

2010-11-05 075212International technology Group ANDRITZ has successfully started up equipment for a fiberline modernization at UPMʼs Kymi mill in Kouvola, Finland. This project is part of the mill’s program to minimize effluents and upgrade production capacity. ANDRITZ’s scope of supply included a chip feeding system (TurboFeed) for the continuous digester, an oxygen delignification stage with Drum Displacer washer and knot separation, screening modernization, and modification of the A-stage bleaching process.

and kymiUPM’s Kymi mill stands for environmentally-friendly integrated pulp and paper production with a high rate of energy self-sufficiency and biofuel usage. The mill produces bleached softwood and hardwood kraft pulp (total capacity 570,000 t/a), as well as coated and uncoated fine paper (830,000 t/a).

and worldThe greenfield pulp mill of Zhanjiang Chenming Pulp & Paper Co., Ltd reached its nominal production capacity of 700,000 t/a in world record time – only 121 days from start-up. It has also produced 100% of design capacity during the first full operating year, establishing another world record. All key production technologies and start-up supervision were provided by international technology Group ANDRITZ. Zhanjiang Chenming Pulp & Paper is a subsidiary of Shandong Chenming Paper, one of the largest pulp and paper producers in China.

In 2009, ANDRITZ PULP & PAPER was awarded the contract to deliver all process technologies for the bleached hardwood kraft pulp mill located in GuangdongProvince. The mill was started up in September 2011 and reached its nominal average production capacity only four months later (measured as a 30-day moving average). This represents a new “world record” based upon officially available figures of greenfield pulp mills, eclipsing the record set by another ANDRITZ customer in South America. This extremely fast start-up has an important economic element in that it greatly enhances a mill’s return on investment.

ANDRITZ’s scope of supply included the wood handling system, the fiberline (cooking, washing, screening, bleaching, pulp dryer, and bale finishing), and the recovery island (evaporation, recovery boiler, and white liquor plant). In addition, ANDRITZ was entrusted with the delivery of the stock preparation systems for the mill’s new paper machines.

and 221112International technology Group ANDRITZ has received an order from Brigl & Bergmeister, one of the world’s leading producers of specialty papers for labels and flexible packaging, to supply a PrimeCoat film press, including an infrared drying system, for Papirnica Vevče, Slovenia. Start-up is scheduled for 2013.

With the PrimeCoat film press, different pre-coatings are possible and coat weights can be applied to each side of the paper web, also at higher machine speed. In addition to the improved pre-coating quality for a wide range of coating applications, the ANDRITZ technology increases the annual output by 20,000 t to reach 110,000 t.

International technology Group ANDRITZ received an order from the Hengan Group, China, to supply four tissue machines with Steel Yankees to mills in Changde and Chongqing. After the start-up of these machines, which is scheduled for 2014, the Hengan Group will be producing tissue on 13 ANDRITZ tissue machines.

This year, ANDRITZ has successfully started up four high-speed tissue machines for the Hengan Group, two of which are fitted with the largest steel Yankees for tissue applications.

The four new tissue machines, PrimeLineTM W8 designs, will have a design speed of 2,000 m/min and a width of 5.6 m. Each will be equipped with a Steel Yankee (diameter 18 ft.). ANDRITZ’s scope of supply also includes the complete stock preparation plant and the automation equipment.

The ANDRITZ PULP & PAPER business area, which manufactures its tissue machine components in Europe and China, is confirming its position as one of the leading suppliers of tissue machines and local services in China. ANDRITZ will be presenting its latest tissue technology at Tissue World Asia in Shanghai (November 14-16, 2012) and at Tissue World Barcelona (March 19-21, 2013).

ANDRITZ GROUP with solid business development

International technology Group ANDRITZ showed solid business development during the third quarter of 2012 and the first three quarters of 2012:

§   In the third quarter of 2012, sales amounted to 1,265.5 MEUR, which is an increase of 7.9% compared to last year’s reference figure (Q3 2011: 1,173.1 MEUR). With the exception of the SEPARATION business area, all business areas noted increases in sales. In the first three quarters of 2012, sales, at

3,703.3 MEUR, rose by 16.3% compared to the previous year’s reference period (Q1-Q3 2011:3,184.2 MEUR).

§   The order intake saw a very satisfactory development in the third quarter of 2012. At 1,238.8 MEUR, it was only slightly below the high level of last year’s reference period (Q3 2011: 1,254.1 MEUR), which included a large order in the amount of approximately 330 MEUR in the HYDRO business area. In the first three quarters of 2012, order intake amounted to 3,793.2 MEUR and was thus 22.6% below the extraordinarily high level of the previous year’s reference period (Q1-Q3 2011: 4,898.6 MEUR), which included two large orders in the PULP & PAPER business area amounting to around 1,100 MEUR in addition to the large order mentioned above (HYDRO: 330 MEUR).

§   The order backlog as of September 30, 2012 amounted to 6,929.8 MEUR (+3.7% vs. December 31,

2011: 6,683.1 MEUR).

§    EBITA amounted to 86.5 MEUR in the third quarter of 2012 and thus almost reached the previous year’s reference figure (-3.7 % vs. Q3 2011: 89.8 MEUR). The EBITA margin declined to 6.8% (Q3 2011: 7.7%). This decline is mainly attributable to the PULP & PAPER business area (execution of large orders) and the SEPARATION business area (cost overruns at some projects and investments in the expansion of business activities in the emerging markets). The EBITA in the first three quarters of 2012, at

242.1 MEUR, increased by 9.3% compared to the reference period of the previous year (Q1-Q3 2011:

221.4 MEUR). The EBITA margin amounted to 6.5% (Q1-Q3 2011: 7.0%).

§    Net income (excluding non-controlling interests) increased to 167.2 MEUR during the first three quarters of 2012 (+11.1% vs. Q1-Q3 2011: 150.5 MEUR).

§   The net worth position and capital structure as of September 30, 2012 remained solid. The total assets increased to 5,103.7 MEUR (December 31, 2011: 4,566.6 MEUR). This increase is attributable primarily to the successful issue of a corporate bond with a volume of 350 MEUR (tenor: seven years). Thus, the equity ratio declined to 19.4% (December 31, 2011: 20.6%). The net liquidity amounted to 1,286.4 MEUR (December 31, 2011: 1,400.6 MEUR).

Commenting on the outlook for the 2012 business year, President and CEO Wolfgang Leitner says: “Although there is perceptible caution in investment activity in the industries served by ANDRITZ due to the very difficult overall economic environment, the overall project activity is satisfactory. However, the visibility of upcoming projects and the award of orders have shortened significantly, particularly for large-scale investments.”

For the fully year of 2012, the ANDRITZ GROUP expects an increase in sales to approximately 5 billion EUR. The net income is also expected to rise compared to last year. However, if the global economy should deteriorate further in the coming months, this may have a negative impact on the Group’s earnings.

andritz 051112International technology Group Andritz successfully started up a fibrous reject compacting line for S.A. Industrias Celulosa Aragonesa (SAICA) at the El Burgo de Ebro mill in Saragossa, Spain.

Three new ANDRITZ Reject Compactors are part of an existing waste-to-power line and have the capacity to process 500 t of wet rejects per day. The wet rejects consist of various fiber residues and plastics produced in a recycled fiber processing line at the mill.  The fiber is used in the production of industrial grades of paper. By removing the water and compacting the rejects, the heating value of the rejects is improved and SAICA achieves higher electricity output from its power boiler and turbine-generator.

ANDRITZ PULP & PAPER is one of the leading global suppliers of turnkey systems and services for the production of all types of pulp, paper, tissue paper, board, fiber-board (MDF), nonwovens, as well as of biomass boilers and gasifiers for energy production and of systems for the production of plastic films. International technology Group ANDRITZ has received an order from CH. Karnchang (Lao) Company Ltd. to supply the electromechanical equipment for the Xayaburi run-of-river hydropower station, Lao People’s Democratic Republic. The order value is about 250-300 MEUR and the order is planned to come into force during the next six months. Start-up is scheduled for the end of 2019.

ANDRITZ HYDRO emerged as best bidder in an international tendering process with suppliers from Europe and Asia and will deliver seven Kaplan turbines, each with an output of 175 MW, an additional Kaplan turbine with an output of 68.8 MW, generators and governors, automation systems, and additional equipment. With a nominal capacity of 1,285 MW, the Xayaburi run-of-river hydropower station will have an annual output of 7,406 GWh (equal to the capacity of an average European nuclear power plant) and will provide electricity for around one million households. The size of the hydropower plant is comparable to medium-sized plants, for example in North America. Unlike storage power plants, only small volumes of water are stored in run-of-river hydropower stations.

Due to the shortage or entire lack of other energy resources, Laos has focused for years on expanding hydropower in order to improve the standard of living of its population (half of the population has no electricity supply), stimulate the country’s economic growth, and reduce its dependence on fossil energy resources.

In collaboration with European experts, the Lao government has generally approved the project on the basis of accompanying measures addressing ecological and social aspects. In the course of the further process, the accompanying measures (for example fish ladders) will be defined in detail in cooperation with all stakeholders involved.

The modern technology offered by ANDRITZ HYDRO and the successful supply of electromechanical equipment by ANDRITZ for Nam Theun II hydropower plant in Laos, which went into operation in 2010, were decisive in award of the order. Nam Theun is considered a showcase project worldwide for sustainable hydroelectric power plants and a project in which numerous accompanying social and ecological measures were implemented successfully in compliance with the guidelines of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

news-picture-20121024International technology Group ANDRITZ, through its U.S. subsidiary ANDRITZ Inc., received an order to supply its advanced continuous biomass pre-treatment technology for the Poet-DSM Advanced Biofuels commercial-scale biofuel facility being built in Emmetsburg, Iowa, USA. 

Project LIBERTY is POET-DSM’s first commercial scale 2nd generation cellulosic ethanol plant and is under construction in Emmetsburg, Iowa. The facility will produce 20 million-gallons per year by using corn cobs, leaves, husk, and some stalk to produce renewable fuel. Construction is scheduled to be complete in the fourth quarter of 2013.

ANDRITZ’s advanced steam explosion (SteamEx) technology is a two-stage process which includes a vertical reactor, interstage washing, and continuous steam explosion. The technology will be employed to help in the pre-treatment of biomass so that it can be converted into low-cost sugars which will be used in the production of ethanol. This technology is well-proven in other industrial processes and, through extensive R&D in liquid biofuels, has been optimized by ANDRITZ to satisfy the requirements for Project LIBERTY.

International technology Group ANDRITZ has received an order from C&S Paper Yunfu, Luoding, Guangdong Province, China, to supply two PrimeLineST tissue machines, each equipped with a steel yankee. Start-up is scheduled for the end of 2013.

The tissue machines have a design speed of 1,900 m/min and a width of 5.56 m. The steel yankees will be 18 ft in diameter with a shell length of 6.2 m, making them the world’s largest steel yankees for tissue. ANDRITZ’s scope of supply also includes the complete stock preparation plant as well as automation and drive systems.

These will the first PrimeLineST machines in China.  The design of the PrimeLine ST is to reduce energy consumption in the drying process, which uses relatively cheap steam only.  A large, high-precision steel yankee is combined with a steam-heated hood to achieve the maximum possible output at stable runnability, and this is achieved with significant cost savings.

The machinery and equipment will be manufactured at ANDRITZ’s production facilities in Europe and China. With this turnkey delivery, the PULP & PAPER business area is strengthening its position as one of the leading suppliers of tissue machines and local services in China.
